Family-Friendly Workshops announced for Baltimore Comic Con

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - July 14, 2016 - The 17th annual Baltimore Comic-Con returns the Inner Harbor's Baltimore Convention Center September 2-4, 2016. Tickets for the Baltimore Comic-Con are now available, and kids 10 and under are free with the purchase of General Admission tickets, as always.

New York Times bestselling author of The School for Good and Evil series Soman Chainani will be at Baltimore Comic-Con this year! Soman will have a spotlight panel on Sunday, September 4th at 12pm where he will discuss the rich world of The School for Good and Evil, where things are never as black and white as they might seem. There are three novels in The School for Good and Evil series and one companion Handbook novel, so now is the perfect time for new fans to meet Soman and learn all about the series. In addition to Soman's appearance, Michael Blank, the illustrator for the gorgeous full-color The School for Good and Evil: The Ever Never Handbook will be in the Kids Love Comics Pavilion area, sponsored by HarperCollins Publishers, on Saturday, September 3rd.   Soman Chainani believes in fairy tales wholeheartedly. When studying at Harvard, he practically created his own fairy-tale major. He is an acclaimed screenwriter and a graduate of the MFA Film Directing Program at Columbia University. His films have played at more than 150 film festivals around the world, and his writing awards include an honor from the Sun Valley Writers' Conference. He lives in New York City. Along with an amazing list of all-ages comics guests, The Kids Love Comics Pavilion, sponsored by The School for Good and Evil series, will bring their smile-inducing and inspiring workshops to the Baltimore Comic-Con this September. "Several of our workshops return year after year," said Mark Mariano, Pavilion organizer, "But it's the audience participation that make the same old workshop brand new each and every time."     One of the returning workshops to the Pavilion is the very popular Superhero University. Created and hosted by the ambassador of imagination, Chris O>Matic, this fun workshop takes attendees on a journey from ordinary kid to superhero in less than an hour. "We want to show kids that anyone can become a superhero," Chris O>Matic said. "All you need is some construction paper, scissors, crayons, tape, a table cloth, and a big imagination. We provide all the art supplies, so really you just need to bring your imagination!" The workshop is open to the first 50 kids, so be sure to bring your young one early for this event.

While Superhero University continues to be a staple in the Kids Love Comics Pavilion, the energetic and extremely popular drawing game show known as DOODLE! SCRIBBLE! DRAW! has evolved into a brand new game, Scribble Scramble. When asked about the change to his game show format, creator and host, Mark Mariano answered, "At it's core, DOODLE! SCRIBBLE! DRAW! focused on the professional artists, but now with Scribble Scramble, artists from audience are the stars of the show." Mariano is not exaggerating -- the entire audience, armed with pencils and paper, participate in two rounds of this game. Eight winners move on to tackle several quick-paced drawing challenges. In the end, only one artist will be victorious and go home with the ultimate Comic-Con souvenir, The Scribble Scramble championship belt. Your doodle destiny awaits.

Another teaching artist that will be changing up his workshop this year, is Buzzboy creator, John Gallagher. His past workshops included Jedi Training and Creating Comics as a Family. This time around, John will be leading the workshop, Let's Go Lego. "When I first started teaching my kids how to draw, I had them draw Lego people and built off of that," John recalls. Now his workshop is reaching and teaching hundreds of kids the simple fundamentals of drawing characters through the classic Lego figure design.
